Open Cut Collective is focused on generating renewal through creativity.
We facilitate embedding arts and culture within Gippsland’s energy transition by fostering creative economies for our post-mining identity.
Who are we?
Who are we?
Open Cut Collective is a Gippsland-based collective working at the intersection of mine rehabilitation, cultural regeneration and renewable energy transition. As our region undergoes the monumental shift away from coal—with the closure of our three major power stations—we see a vital role for artists, storytellers, and cultural practitioners in shaping what comes next.
We facilitate arts-led engagement with land, memory and future-making—embedding creativity into the heart of regional transformation. From pop-up exhibitions and participatory projects to long-term residencies and partnerships with industry, we are building the foundations for a thriving creative economy rooted in place, care and collaboration.
Our work supports not only local artists and communities, but also industry and government partners seeking meaningful ways to engage, reflect and reimagine. In the ruins of extractive industry, we see the fertile ground of possibility—and we are here to help it grow.
